1. What is a Confidence Pool?
In a confidence pool you pick the team you think is going to win and assign that team a confidence ranking from 1 to x (depending on the number of games your league is playing).

The confidence rank, say 1 to 15, determines how many points you receive if you pick correctly. For example, you pick Arizona over Tampa Bay for 12 points and Arizona wins, you are awarded 12 points for that game. If Tampa Bay wins, you receive 0 points.

2. Why is your confidence pool not a pick-em pool?
Pick-em pools assign a single point for every game you win, scoring on total wins and losses. I guess we could create a pool like this for you, please let us know if you want us to do this.

3. How do I win a confidence pool?
Here is how Smotch.com determines who wins – Every week we count the total points for each team in the pool. Unless there is a tie, the team with the most points wins.

Note: In confidence pools there can be several types of winners – Weekly, Season, Mid-Season, 2nd place, Free Pass and more. These details are up to your pool admin to determine.

4. What do I get if I win?
Hey, we’re just here to do the management of the pool and we’re not a gambling site. Smotch.com is for entertainment purposes only. If we create some free public pools there may be prizes.

TOP

5. What if there is a Tie?
A tie occurs if 2 or more teams are tied on total points for the week. When setting up the pool, the admin will select whether or not the tiebreaker is used.

If tiebreaker is used, the winner will be the team that gets closest to the total combined points (add the 2 scores together) of the Monday Night Football game.

6. What if our pool plays 2 halves of the season?

Honestly folks, this is not something we’ve built, but we think you could still do it with our interface. Check with us via email if this is how you play and we’ll see what we can do to help out.

TOP

7. What if we play various types of winner or the loser gets a free pass?
If you have good ideas for playing, please let us know. We are open minded about what can be done and are always looking for ways to improve the experience for all of our users.

TOP

8. Sounds good so far, how much will this cost me?
If you’re a player – nothing! That’s it, that easy. Smotch.com charges for Football Pools only once, when the pool is created. If the pool admin has different rules for getting in, that’s entirely up to them and has nothing to do with us, please talk to your pool admin.

Office Pool fees range from free to $14.95 – depending on the type of pool.

9. Fine, how do I create a Football Pool?
To create a football pool, if you’re not already a user, our simple process will guide you through becoming a user and creating a pool. Pick the pool, pay for it, select options and invite friends.

TOP

10. How many teams can be in a league?
We like to say “As many as you like” and mean it. If your pool is enormous, we may have to change some things later on, but we hope not to.

TOP

11. How many teams can each player/owner have?
Each owner in a pool can have up to 10 teams. This is a pool option that the pool admin will have to set, the default is 3 teams per owner.

TOP

12. Do more teams cost more money?
No, how many times do we have to tell you that the admin pays once and the players do not pay.

TOP

13. When do I have to make my picks?
This depends on what your Pool Admin set up when they created the Office Pool. It will be one of the following:

Picks must be submitted before the start of the first game of the current week.

or

Picks must be submitted before the start of each game. This means that you have until the start of each game to submit or change picks for that game.

The date and time that picks are due is listed on your personal home page and the league home page once you are logged in. Picks will not be allowed if they are made after the date and time shown.

14. What can I do for offline teams, some people in our pool do not have internet access?
We offer the pool admin options for managing owners and teams for offline users. The admin can create teams and submit picks for any owner or team in the pool. For more details, see the Admin help section after you’ve created a pool.

TOP

15. Can I print weekly pick sheets?
Sure, sheets are available for each week on the league home page. The admin can even add custom information such as a fax # or email address to the sheet to make it easier to get the picks back.

TOP

16. Where and when can I see the scores?
There are 2 answers here. First, on Monday morning you can see the scores & pool results through Sunday’s games. Second, following the Monday night game we will update the scores and make them final.

Note: We’ll send an email to each pool member with this information as well.
